Scholarship Contest: “Zicklin Contracting Restoration Awareness Scholarship”

Zicklin Contracting, a family-operated company, is renowned for its expertise in handling construction and renovation projects in the New York Tri-State region. With a collective experience of 35 years, we have a proven track record of 100% project completion, including new building constructions and various restoration works.

Eligibility:

• Open to all high school seniors, undergraduates, and graduate students in the USA and Canada.

• All applicants must strictly enroll in a college or university for the upcoming academic year.

We’re excited to announce the recipient of our 2025 Restoration Awareness Scholarship:

Emily Reyes, UAA Nursing Program

Emily’s submission stood out for its heartfelt essay on the role of care and compassion in disaster recovery, along with a beautifully hand-drawn illustration that captured the spirit of restoration. Her work reflected a genuine understanding of community rebuilding — thoughtful, original, and created with clear effort.

As the owner of Zicklin Contracting, I personally reviewed every submission, and Emily’s was one of the most sincere and impactful we received. It was a pleasure to read and an honor to support her goals.

Transparency & Process Update

We’d like to address an important point: While the scholarship winner was selected and awarded on time, we did not publicly announce the winner or notify all applicants as we had intended. This was due to an internal oversight by a team member.

We’re grateful that someone brought this to our attention. The issue has since been corrected, and moving forward:

• All scholarship selections and communications will be directly overseen by the owner

• Winners will be announced publicly and all applicants will be notified via email

• While we are unable to email every applicant individually, we will make an effort to personally respond to those who specifically request updates

Participants are required to submit an essay, video, or infographic on one of the following topics:

• Discuss the impact of water damage on homes and businesses.

• Explain the restoration process and why it’s essential for property recovery.

• Provide actual examples or detailed case studies.

Fire Damage Restoration and Safety Measures:

• Describe the steps involved in fire damage restoration.

• Highlight key safety measures to prevent fire damage.

• Provide insights on how restoration services help communities recover.

Understanding Insurance Restoration Services:

• Explain how insurance restoration services assist homeowners and businesses in the aftermath of damage.

• Discuss the process of filing a water damage restoration insurance claim.

• Offer tips for navigating insurance claims effectively.

• Essay: 800-1,200 words, double-spaced, in a PDF or Word format.

• Video: 3-5 minutes long, uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo with the link submitted in the application form.

• Infographic: One-page design in PDF or high-resolution image format (JPEG/PNG).

• Relevance to the chosen topic.

• Originality and creativity.

• Clarity and coherence of ideas.

• Quality of research and examples provided.

• Overall presentation and adherence to submission guidelines.
